Antwerp Zoo

We didn't spend any time in Antwerp proper.  We took a train to Antwerp, got off the train (Zuid Station, or South Station is literally right next to the Zoo) walked right into the zoo, spent the day, got back on the train and back to Brussels!

The zoo was pretty nice.  There was a good mix of animals, and given the relatively small footprint (being surrounded by Antwerp) they did an excellent job of not only having many animals, but keeping them in what seemed to be pretty animal-friendly enclosures.

Their primate exhibits were particularly good, and since Melissa really likes them, that was a bonus.  They also had the best penguin exhibit we've seen - at least for the humans.  You could actually reach out and touch them (although I'm guessing you weren't supposed to).  And, of course, there were Melissa's all time favorite meerkats.

If you happen to be in the area, I think we can safely recommend a trip to the Zoo in Antwerp.  And it's a lot cheeper than visiting the diamond sellers.
