Broadway

Our base of operations in the Cotswolds was Broadway.  There were many towns that looked appealing (on the web and in books) but we had a good feeling about Broadway.  It is sort of the stereotypical English country town.  Most of the buildings are built from yellow Cotswold stone and there is even the occaisonal thatched roof (for the tourists benefit, I'm sure).  There are many shops on the main street and a number of restaurants.  Also located in Broadway is the Lygon Arms, a somewhat famous Inn in England.

While staying here we got a bit adventurous looking for a "local" dining experience.  We got the name of a pub from the B&B and on Friday night set off for dinner.  We could have sworn we were going the wrong way given the width of the roads and lack of, well, anything, along the way.  However, in time we got there.  It turned out to be an extremely popular place with the locals!  We didn't realize that we really should have had reservations.  They managed to seat us (as long as we were out in due time) and so we did have a pretty good meal there.  The only down side was the smoke.  That place was FILLED with smoke.  For that reason alone I probably wouldn't go back; but the experience is what counts!  Of course I don't remember what the place was called in any case.

If you're planning to stay in the Cotswolds, we would recommend staying or visiting Broadway.
