The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds are an area of England north of London.  I'm not sure what officially designates the area, but it seems to be a mix of rural and urban areas.  Within it are a number of quaint locations, one of which we stayed at: Broadway.  The one unique thing I can identify for sure about the Cotswolds is Costwold stone which is a yellowish stone that comes from this region and gives a distinctive look to the many buildings in the area that are made from it.

While staying in Broadway we visited Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon.  Our B&B was by far the most extravagant of the trip, but it was reflected in the price.  This one was our "splurge."

I think that this part of our time in England was some of the most fun.  The setting was relaxing and beautiful.  It really felt like we were in a different world.  It was a bit of a shock landing in London after that.

There was so much more to do in the area that we didn't get a chance to do but even based on those things we did, we would both highly recommend a stay in the area.  Broadway, in particular, was great, although a bit geared towards tourists.  On the verge of the off-season is was more or less us and the locals as far as we could tell.
