Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle was the most interesting of the castles that we visited.  It has a good variety of things to do and see.  Around the year there are themed happenings, and during the high tourist season there are periodic daily events.  On our day there was not much going on, but we still spent about 5 hours there.  By the end we were both worn out!

Among the many things you can do here are:

The Royal Weekend Party - A set of rooms set up with wax figures to appear as things would have appeared while the Earl of the time (or more precisely his wife) was throwing a party.

The Great Hall and State Rooms - Another set of rooms showing how things were when the castle was still inhabited.

Ghost Tower - We didn't do this, but one of the towers is said to be haunted, and they've made a "live action experience" in there.  It cost extra.

The Mound - At one end of the castle is a hill across which the castle wall runs.  There are great views from the top.

Rampart walk - You can walk around about a fifth of the castle wall including going through two of the towers.  It's interesting to see how towers that are only about 20' in diameter held rooms that were used for guests.

Peacock Garden and Conservatory - There is a nice garden with, you guessed it, peacocks outside the castle wall.  It is adjacent to a conservatory.

Mill & Engine house - You can see the electricity generating machinery on the river.

There are a few other things, too many to mention, really!  It's located north east of Stratford, and within driving distance from London.  I would highly recommend a trip here to anyone who is even remotely interested in castles.
