Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle was the first touristy thing we did on our vacation.  It was Melissa's first experience with a castle.  I hadn't thought about it until after, but as Melissa said, it's not what most people think of when they think "castle."  It was less about luxury and more about defense.  As a defensive castle it was very impressive though.

It was, as was common on our trip, a partially rainy day when we went to the castle.  We got involved in a tour that was unfortunately mostly outside!  We tried not to have to use our umbrellas but in the end we gave in.  Even with the rain, we still enjoyed touring the castle, there are a few interesting parts to note:  St Margaret's Chapel: the oldest building in Edinburgh, The Scottish National War Memorial, the Stone of Destiny: used in the coronation of monarchs of Scotland and to this day the monarchs of England and many other parts of the castle are open to visitors.
