London

There's so much I could say about London.  I'll let the pictures speak to most of it.  But let me outline this part of the trip.  We travelled to Heathrow by car a little over a week after arriving in Glasgow.  We dropped our car off at Heathrow.  What a nightmare that was!  We could not, for the life of us, figure out how to get to the car rental place.  It took us a while just to figure out how to get to the terminal we needed, then once we got there we only saw one small sign that pointed towards rental car return.  That was the only sign the whole time!  Pretty shoddy, I must say.  This was a particularly stressful part of our trip.  However, the people at the rental car place were extremely helpful.  They get bonus points for that.  We got to hear our bus drivers life story, and in particular about the bike she bought so she could ride with her grand daughter as she was about to retire.

From Heathrow we took the train into the Piccadilly station.  Then from there took another train to a station that was about 10 minutes walk from our hotel.  This was all a huge mistake.  Just changing trains with 2 weeks worth of suitcases was bad enough.  Then the walk to the hotel made it worse.  We got a ride back to the airport on our way out!

We stayed at the Maida Vale Marriott.  Many thanks to Melissa's brother Craig for getting us a discount there!  It was a very nice hotel and a room in which we didn't mind staying for a week.  The service in the bar restaurant was pretty slow and the regular restaurant breakfast prices were completely outrageous, but other than that, it was a decent place to stay.

So every day we got up and headed to the Underground station (Kilburn Park) and went into London.  The Underground was very convenient, especially with the week pass we got.

Five days wasn't really enough time to do everything we would have wanted to do, but it was pretty close.  We spent a fair amount of time going back and forth between places, and occasionally missing out because something closed earlier than we expected.  If we'd been more organized, the five days probably would have been perfect.
