Windsor Castle

From my last trip to England (as a preteen) I remembered Windsor Castle as one of the highlights of the trip.  I have to say it was a bit of a disappointment going back!  Not that it's not worth visiting, mind you, it's just much less accessible than other castles.  The reason is that it's still a royal residence.

What you can see are: State rooms, Queen Mary's doll house, St George's Chapel and sometimes the semi-state rooms.  I believe we only saw the State rooms.  As we'd already been to Stonehenge and made a side trip to Beaconsfield, and, quite honestly, got lost trying to get here, we didn't have a lot of time.  It also didn't help that the chapel was closed as it was Sunday and in use.  The state rooms alone are worth a visit from London, plus if you plan better than us, you'll get to see the rest too!  The state rooms that are shown are still used for official functions.  In fact, in one room you can watch a video of one such function and if you look closely at the background you can tell which room it was from the wallpaper pattern!

Other interesting facts: It is the largest inhabited castle in Europe.  St. George's Chapel is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, one of England's chivalric orders.
