St. Paul's Cathedral

St. Paul's Cathedral was designed by Sir Christopher Wren who appears to have been the architect behind an extremeley large portion of London.  Personally, I like his style!  This is the fourth cathedral on this site, and was built between 1675 and 1720.  The third cathedral on the site was destroyed during the great fire of 1666.  This was the location of, among other things, Lord Nelson's, Winston Churchill's funerals, the wedding of Lady Di and Prince Charles and the jubilee's of past monarchs.

We fit St. Paul's in one afternoon when we really didn't have all the time we needed.  We did manage to go up to the Whispering gallery and outside at the top.  While we couldn't take pictures inside, some of the pictures were taken from the top on the outside.  There was one family that, for some reason, broke out some alcohol at the top.  Not sure if it had some religious significance to them, but it seemed a bit odd.    We also went down into the crypt, locating some of the notables there:  Admiral Nelson, Sir Christopher Wren (architect of the Cathedral) and Sir Alexander Fleming.

As with many of the sites we saw on our trip, St. Paul's was under renovation at the time.
